Science Matters Class Offerings for the 2024-25 School Year
Science Sampler: Experience a sampling of different science themes each week! Become an inventor and build your own circuit to send messages in Morse Code, become a geologist and go gemstone mining, and become a chemist as you create oozy glowing slime and other crazy chemistry concoctions!
Slime Time: Calling all slimeologists! Prepare to get elbow deep in gooey fun as we enter the world of polymer chemistry and make different slime creations each week. You’ll make amazing color changing slime, textured slime with growing orbs, and chalkboard slime that you can draw on!
Magical Mixtures: Join us as we explore the science behind the magic! Reveal a rainbow of colors during our acid and base investigation, mix up an exothermic reaction to create a “matter monster”, conduct experiments on mystery powders, and uncover the secrets behind disappearing crystals and magic sand. These fun-filled experiments will amaze you and your friends!
Invention Lab: Calling all inventors! If you like to tinker with things, then do we have a club for you. Make a metal detector to identify conductors and insulators, build a circuit with a switch for your own mini shiner, construct a cool catapult, mix up your own ink and create art with a quill pen.
Blinded by the Light: LIGHT! It bends, it bounces, it scatters! Explore the science behind color and light in this exciting hands-on exploration of the science that illuminates our world. Make a rockin’ rainbow tube, create a light maze, experiment with UV detectors, and make a luminescent goo tube.
Earth’s Mysteries: Join us as we learn more about this planet we call home. Explore the relationship between predator and prey, make discoveries about dinosaurs that once roamed the earth, use the power of the sun to make tasty treats, and explore hidden treasures. There is so much to learn about our fascinating world!
